About Me
I was born and raised in Belvidere, Illinois. Both of my parents were teachers, my mom taught 5th grade, and my dad taught 8th grade math. I have a brother, Eric, who is three years older than me and currently lives in Boston, MA. In July 2011, I married Jason Patton, a fellow meteorology alumnus from Iowa State University. We moved to Madison, WI in 2016, where Jason also works at the University of Wisconsin-Madison as a software specialist for the Center for High-Throughput Computing. In October 2020, our daughter Sophie joined our family, and we gained the wonderful joy (and challenging trials) of raising a small child. We have one cat named Pascal - a.k.a. Picky, Snoozy-boo, Pescador.
I enjoy reading and watching movies. Science fiction is probably my favorite genre for both, but I enjoy other genres as well. I enjoy playing video games, especially open-world RPGs or Mario franchise games. I like watching and attending sports events. Growing up in northern Illinois with a dad who grew up in Wisconsin led to an interesting mix in team affiliations. I am a Packers, Brewers, Bulls, and Blackhawks fan. I am also a big fan of Iowa State sports, and University of Wisconsin sports. Thankfully they are not in the same conference! I am a fairly avid runner, having participated in over a dozen 5K races and a half-marathon in September 2018. The COVID pandemic sidelined me for a while, but I hope to start participating in races again soon.
I also enjoy travelling. Being teachers, my parents always had time off during summer break, and we would often vacation somewhere across the United States. My first overseas trip took me on a tour of Belgium, France, Germany, and Austria as part of the ISU Wind Ensemble. In 2010, my mother and I travelled together to Italy. For our honeymoon, my husband and I went to Australia. Recently we've been taking trips to visit family, in Boston, Phoenix, Minneapolis, and Galveston. I hope to continue travelling both within the United States and abroad throughout my life.
